Establishing A Natural Balance To The Farm And Environment

Nutrition and food is a central aspect of all life in general. In addition to water the human body is dependent on carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Majority of the foods we consume are grown with harmful chemicals and pesticides in order to yield a more productive output. For example vegetables, fruits, grains and pulses need a spray of pesticides to eliminate the widespread damage that happens without pest control. In animal husbandry the animals are injected with growth hormones to make them more profitable in the meat market. Although these measures are done with the sole purpose of creating higher gains they can have adverse consequences on the health and wellbeing on the people who are eating these foods.

It has been proved by studies that many of these chemicals and synthetic substances involved in the cultivation of vegetables and grains are not only carcinogenic but can also cause genetic abnormalities if not washed properly or if pesticides and fertilizers are used liberally without adequate restrictions regarding standard safety amounts. Here is where the appeal of organic foods comes into picture. Organic farmers are not focused on gaining profits alone and practice farming in a more conscientious way where the tenets of treating nature with kindness and respect are also a priority.

The term organic refers to how farmers cultivate crops without exploitation and misuse of natural resources, it refers to a particular method of production. In instances where conventional farmers use chemical weeds killers, organic farmers use more advanced and cumbersome techniques such as crop rotations, mulch, manure and other natural methods of killing pests to get rid of their problem. Preserving the fertility of the soil and the purity of water bodies in the surrounding farming environment is also becoming a major concern for educated farmers and environmentalists.

People are choosing to pay higher for organic foods as it helps them to stay away from those feared substances like chemicals and additives. In addition, it has also been proved that germs found in conventional foods are much more resistant to drugs while the nutritional content in organic foods is higher with respect to increased levels of phosphorus.

According to a Nielson study by USA Today 51% of the respondents felt that organic foods are more nutritious. This same belief is also motivating Indian buyers of organic food. Organic foods are so much kinder to the environment and aim to maintain the biodiversity and the natural balance of life in the farming environment without attempting to eliminate every form of life.
